HONEYWELL INDUSTRIAL CYBERSECURITY
USB THREAT REPORT 2020

Since publication of our original USB threat report, there has been a general increase in awareness around the potential cyber risk of our friend the Universal Serial Bus. For critical infrastructure operators in manufacturing, energy, shipping, chemical, oil & gas, pulp & paper, water & wastewater, and building automation, removable media remains one of the top vectors for cybersecurity threats.

USB represents an even greater threat than just spreading malware: a USB device can be used to attack systems directly, using the USB interface as a powerful attack vector.

In context of these USB security concerns and continued advancements in targeted attacks that rely on USB, researchers from Honeywell’s Industrial Cybersecurity Global Analysis, Research, and Defense (GARD) team once again analyzed USB usage and behavioral data collected from production sites. This report shares findings from this new research and identifies emerging trends from the original Honeywell Industrial USB Threat Report.
